Yvette Bates became the Ngarrama team’s second midwife at Redcliffe Hospital back in September, but she’s been part of the hospital team since 2016.

“I have worked in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maternity care for the best part of ten years.

The ability to work in my community as an Aboriginal Midwife is, in part, why I became a midwife. Redcliffe has been my home for the last five years and I love it.”

“The people here, it is such a friendly small community feel. People say hi and smile all the time,” Yvette said.

“My role is to provide excellent midwifery care during the antenatal, birthing, and postnatal phase to Aboriginal and, or, Torres Strait Islander women, babies, and their families. This includes visits here at the hospital, in the community, or at home.”

Yvette said she works with two other Ngarrama team members at Redcliffe, Jodi Dyer and Louise Cole.

“In the Ngarrama team we’re all passionate about fantastic maternity care,” Yvette said.
