Redcliffe Hospital’s junior doctors are now able to refine their intravenous cannulation technique with the help of a new ultrasound training model in the Skills Centre.
The training model, known as the Blue Phantom, was provided thanks to a Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital Wishlist Grant awarded last year.
Director of Research and Medical Education Dr Joel Dulhunty said the Blue Phantom model enabled junior doctors to access a realistic simulation model to practice ultrasound-guided cannulation.
“The new ultrasound training model assists doctors to visualise the vein during intravenous cannulation.
“By improving their technique and being able to visualise the vein in patients who may otherwise be difficult to cannulate, these doctors will provide safer care for patients, reducing pain and potential complications.”
The Blue Phantom was one of several Wishlist Grants provided by the hospital’s philanthropic partnership with the RBWH Foundation Raise it for Redcliffe.
