The annual Brisbane Mental Health Expo was held at Brisbane Powerhouse on 14 October, closing out another successful Mental Health Week. This year’s theme was ‘Awareness, Belonging & Connection in Overcoming Loneliness’. The objective of this year’s Expo was to raise awareness, reduce stigma and promote mental health literacy within the general public by providing engaging and innovative displays, performances and workshops.

The 2022 Expo was the largest to date and the feedback received overwhelmingly highlights the value of this event. Metro North Mental Health Service, in collaboration with Metro South Addictions and Mental Health Service, worked with a Steering Committee comprised of representatives from Brisbane City Council and community NGOs. Each year the Expo promotes mental health recovery, reduces stigma surrounding mental health, and showcases a huge array of talented people who have a lived experience of mental illness. An inspiring program featured over 100 artists and performers showing off their talents, while over 70 organisations promoted awareness, belonging and connection by informing Expo visitors of what support options were available in their local community. The ongoing success of the Expo would not be achieved without the incredible commitment and support provided by members of the Mental Health Expo Steering Committee.
