Torres Strait Islander musician Getano Bann

Despite Tier 3 COVID restrictions postponing many of RBWH’s planned NAIDOC Week celebrations, the hospital was still able to celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community during this culturally significant week.

The hospital came to life throughout the week with Aboriginal musical duo The Huntsman, and Torres Strait Islander solo artist Getano Bann.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business Mabaigal attended RBWH to sell a range of items created by the Indigenous community, such as scrunchies, headbands, earrings and T-shirts. The response from staff was incredibly positive, with many people engaging with the business and purchasing products.

An official Aboriginal map of Australia was also revealed in the Level 1 Atrium, allowing staff, patients and visitors can identify which part of Australia they come from or live in.
