Christmas has come and gone, but the heartfelt messages provided in cards to patients will be remembered for much longer.
Late last year, the RBWH Social Work department arranged for primary school children from schools in Brisbane north to write more than 250 Christmas cards to provide to patients in hospital in the lead up to Christmas Day. The aim was to spread Christmas joy and hope to people who might not be able to see family and friends on Christmas Day while they recover in hospital.
The social work team added holiday messages of their own, including a few dad jokes for good measure!
The reaction from patients such as Paul, pictured with social worker Phoebe, was very positive.
“One patient named Robert loves his card so much he said he couldn’t wait to get home to add it to his photo album for safe keeping,” Phoebe said.
“It was beautiful to watch the patients sharing their jokes with each other and bringing laugher to the ward.”
Well done to the social work team for spreading the Christmas spirit.
