In January 2020 the trajectory of the RBWH Ophthalmology Outpatients indicated long wait patients would by more than 3,360 by 30 June. MN Outpatient Strategies partnered with RBWH Ophthalmology team to stabilise the waiting list and improve access to Ophthalmology patients in future.
The project improved patient workflows by redesigning and refurbishing the outpatient area, extending room capacity, increasing clinic activity and entering into collaboratives including with QUT and the GPLO program.
RBWH Ophthalmology Director Maria Moon said that after nearly 10 months of hard work the renovations and refurbishment of the Outpatients Ophthalmology Department are complete and the disruption to staff and patients has been well worth it.
“The patients flow has improved immensely, and the colour coded chairs help identify the patients quickly and easily,” Maria said.
“The project was able to achieve a stabilised waiting list with 1540 long wait patients as at 1 July 2020 (1822 patients less than the projection).
This was achieved even with the reduction in activity and change in service delivery to accommodate COVID-19.”
