NAIDOC Week at RBWHNAIDOC Week at RBWH

From 4-11 July, RBWH celebrated our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history for NAIDOC Week. COVID-19 visitor restrictions meant we had to scale back our original plans, however we were still able to commemorate the week with our official flag raising and acknowledgement of country, as well as displays around the hospital for staff and patients to learn more about the week.

RBWH Physiotherapy Assistant Reece Crawford completed an extraordinary feat of running an incremental half-marathon over 21 days, all in the name of charity. Reece suffered from a traumatic brain injury in 2014 and was brought back to life by the team at RBWH, who he is forever grateful to. On Wednesday 30 June, Reece completed his total distance of 231.1km, and raised $21,425 for the RBWH Foundation in the process. Thank you for your incredible display of the Team Royal spirit, Reece!

Cancer Care tug-of-war

Heart rates were high at the very first Cancer Care ‘Raise it for the Royal’ Tug-of-War competition! Teams from Queensland Fire and Rescue, Queensland Police and professional Tug-a-War organisation the Brisbane Bulls joined teams from across RBWH to battle it out for the ultimate tug-of-war title! Through tough competition, the RBWH Plumbers team, ‘The Poo Fighters’, took out the win. Congratulations to The Poo Fighters and well done to Cancer Care for organising such a fantastic event!
