Uncle Barry is eternally grateful to Aimee and the team who saved his life

RBWH’s clinicians are always ready to save lives, even when they’re off the clock!

RBWH nurse facilitator Aimee Holdsworth was attending a friend’s graduation ceremony in October 2021 when her day took a dramatic turn. One of the fellow attendees, Indigenous Elder Uncle Barry, had gone into cardiac arrest. Aimee and a team of bystanders quickly swung into action, performing CPR and delivering three shocks via an automated external defibrillator before paramedics arrived to transport Uncle Barry to hospital.

Thanks to the quick action of Aimee and the other bystanders, Uncle Barry has made a full recovery and was recently reunited with the people who gave him a second chance at life to express his heartfelt thanks.

“As a registered nurse within an acute hospital setting, we rarely get to see what happens to the people we care for after they leave our ward or hospital,” said Aimee.

“Being reunited with Barry and seeing him looking so healthy is unforgettable.”
