World Delirium Awareness Day was celebrated globally and across Metro North on the 16 March 2022.
Delirium is a serious and distressing complication affecting one in four older people in hospital, marked by the sudden onset of inattention, disorientation and confusion.
This year, the theme of World Delirium Awareness Day was “How do you start the conversation about delirium?”. Through creative designs and activities, ward multidisciplinary teams came together to illustrate how we can talk to patients, staff and care partners about delirium prevention and management.
Judges, including two consumers, were impressed by the creativity and patient-centred approaches demonstrated across seven wards, and Ward 9BS was declared the overall winner and will receive the perpetual trophy.
Well done to everyone who got involved in bringing awareness to this important topic.
