RBWH’s Staff Council has just hit a 10-year milestone of advocating on behalf of staff.
“We are the conduit between staff and the Executive team,” said Elizabeth Bennett, Chair of the RBWH Staff Council.
Over the past 10 years, staff wellbeing has meant a myriad of things and presently, the focus of the council is to include all voices.
“The council has continued to evolve since its first inception and now has a broad representation,” Ms Bennett said.
“In fact, two to three years ago it was called ‘Clinical Council’, since then we have changed the name to Staff Council to encourage staff membership from both clinical and non-clinical streams.”
RBWH Staff and Shadow Councils are an inclusive platform for all staff. The councils currently have representation from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, and staff who identify as LGBTIQ+, culturally or linguistically diverse, living with disability, and neuro diverse.
“Our biggest achievement has been listening to staff and feeding back information,” Ms Bennett said, “we are also reaching out as much as possible to RBWH staff at satellite locations.”
Creating greater involvement for all RBWH staff across different sites, and a sense inclusion for everyone, are among the councils’ objectives for the future.
The council has been celebrating their 10 years alongside staff with various initiatives of staff engagement.
On Friday 18 August, past and present members of the councils gathered and reflected on their achievements over the past 10 years.
Expressions of Interest to join the RBWH are currently open until 31 August, email RBWH-CC-secretariat@health.qld.gov.au for an application form or more information.
