Homelessness Reconnect

Homelessness ReconnectThe annual Redcliffe Homelessness Reconnect event was held in Redcliffe on the 4 August 2022. Mental Health staff members Wilsen Brincat (Dual Diagnosis Coordinator RedCab), Rebeka Riggs (Social Worker – Transitional Care Caboolture Hospital) and Amanda Antonieff (Clinical Nurse – Discharge Facilitator Caboolture Mental Health Unit), hosted a health promotion stall at the event.

Homelessness Reconnect, organised by Encircle, has been held annually for 10 years. This year, Wilsen, Amanda and Rebeka offered fresh fruit, nut bars and nicotine replacement products at the stall. This led to dozens of informative and heart-warming conversations with consumers, community members and service providers on a myriad of topics from smoking cessation to self-care and accessing services. There were many networking opportunities which supported MH consumers to be linked into new services and programs that they may not have been aware of prior to the event.

Staff Compliments

“I found the meeting to be useful for me to interact with others and to know the days plan. I enjoyed the meditation and found it very relaxing. I will definitely continue in the future, thank you.”  Caboolture Short Stay Unit.

“I think it was something that was beneficial and think everyone could benefit from it.” Social skills group, understanding disagreements. Redcliffe Caboolture Community Care Unit.

“Very friendly and welcoming staff. Could not have asked for better support. 10/10.” Biala Acute Care Service.

“I want to thank the three paramedics dispatched to me on the evening of Saturday, May the 21st. From my experience as the patient, all three responded to the situation appropriately and professionally. They showed a level of care and understanding as the circumstances dictated and were able to de-escalate when necessary. They arranged two mental health paramedics to come on site to assess the situation. This greatly contributed to easing the stress I was facing at the time along with everything else going on.”
