STARS has taken out the Property Council of Australia’s Best Public Building award, recognising innovation and excellence through all project aspects including design, construction, client satisfaction, finance, and community perception.
This wonderful accolade is testament to the inspirational design of this amazing public health facility and is just one of the many awards the facility has been awarded.
STARS was also recognised as a finalist in the Public Art project category.
Helen Boocock, Executive Director STARS, attended the Awards with Australian Unity representatives and First Nations artist Tamika Grant-Iramu, whose exquisite artwork features in the ground floor lobby of STARS.
“We can really all be very proud to work in a building that has received such national recognition,” Helen said.
“Creating light-filled, green and accessible spaces enhances patient recovery, particularly for the long stay patients undergoing rehabilitation, while also providing a positive experience for all users.”
STARS is the first public hospital in Queensland to be delivered in a Public Private Partnership (PPP). The PPP model involved Australian Unity developing the STARS facility, with Metro North Health operating the facility, under a long-term lease. This innovative PPP model sets a precedent for delivery of public healthcare infrastructure.
The purpose-designed facility was informed by over 600 design hours across 27 specialised user group sessions. The architectural design focuses on improving health outcomes for patients within a specialist lower-acute healing environment.
STARS enhances the patient experience by embracing technology, natural light, landscaping, design and artwork.
Congratulations to everyone who has been involved in the project and made STARS the wonderful success story it has become.
