Patients recovering from orthopaedic surgery at TPCH are getting the paw-fect pick me up thanks to Ward 2D’s new therapy dog.

Bossy, an eight-year old Labrador Dalmatian, visits the ward every fortnight with her owner Kasey to help brighten the stay of patients.

Proving popular with both patients and staff, the Delta Therapy Dog pooch does her rounds to most patients on the ward, sharing her friendly and loveable nature, and receiving many pats and belly rubs in return.

Ward 2D’s Nurse Unit Manager Madonna Dalton said that Bossy is a great asset to the ward, helping patients with the challenges of their recovery.

“Many patients experience some discomfort after surgery, so Bossy is a great way of distracting them from their condition, and lifting their spirits,” Madonna said.

“Even our most challenging patients respond to Bossy. The joy she brings is priceless.

“Bossy is considered a part of our team – she brings a great vibe to the ward and makes everyone’s day much more enjoyable.”

Delta’s Therapy Dog Teams support an estimated 20,000 Australians in hospitals and care facilities every week.
