Quality and Safety Update

2022-10-28T07:28:50+10:0027 May 2022|The TPCH Newsletter|

TPCH has performed impressively over the last few months, with no Severity Assessment Code 1 (SAC 1) events recorded by us despite the significant clinical and workforce challenges presented by COVID-19.

SAC ratings are used to prioritise clinical incidents and assist with determining the level of investigation and subsequent action that may be required.

A SAC 1 event represents a significant clinical incident that causes death or permanent harm to a patient that was not reasonably expected as an outcome of healthcare

This is an amazing result and highlights our patient centred approach and commitment to delivering excellent clinical care. Everyday, it is those brief moments of providing that little bit of extra care and attention to the patient that makes all the difference.

Since commencing at TPCH in July 2021 I have been impressed by the safety culture of TPCH. The willingness of our staff to report incidents, engage in the process of assessment, and subsequently resolve the matter through engagement with our patients, their families and carers is fantastic. Our patients know we deliver cutting edge innovative care and that things don’t always go to plan, but we must communicate clearly with them and continuously learn to get better. It is my aim to provide our clinicians with all the necessary information to improve the quality and safety of the care they provide, that TPCH consolidates itself as a learning organisation.
