On a Friday in November 1974, Kathy Muhling walked into Royal Brisbane Hospital (RBH) to enquire about job vacancies. Half an hour later she was asked to start on Monday in the RBH dining room and, of course, she said yes!
Kathy’s witnessed decades of changes while working for Queensland Health. Throughout her career, she’s taken on challenging roles and helped to commission, design and open various food service locations across Metro North.
From serving more than 500 staff three fresh meals a day, to counting and polishing the hospital logo-stamped cutlery, Kathy has played an integral role to not only the health and care of our patients but for staff too.
From kitchen staff member at RBH to Health and Safety – Rehabilitation Coordinator based at TPCH, Kathy has seen it all!
“It’s been an incredible place to work. I’ve always been in great teams and around really fun people. The camaraderie we had is something I’ll always treasure,” Kathy said.
“I’ve had some incredible experiences at Metro North, and when I was working in catering every day was an achievement.
“I have just really enjoyed working. It’s as simple as that. I’ve never thought of going anywhere else and have been grateful for the various opportunities I’ve had here at Metro North.”
After an incredible 46 years of service with Metro North, with 15 of those years working in Health and Safety within the Injury Management portfolio based at RBH and TPCH providing support and services to staff across Caboolture, Redcliffe, Mental Health, Oral Health and Community, we say good-bye to Kathy as she plans for retirement.
Kathy is looking forward to taking on volunteering roles and spending more time with her family.
Unfortunately, travel is limited at the moment, but Kathy’s hoping to take some relaxing trips in the next few years. Thank you for your amazing contribution to Metro North over your 46 years, Kathy.
