9 June 2021 – Update 2

Dear colleagues,

This afternoon the Chief Health Officer has announced a community case of COVID-19 on the Sunshine Coast. This new case arrived in Queensland via Goondiwindi on 5 June 2021 and travelled through Toowoomba, before arriving at destination Caloundra the next day. Comprehensive contact tracing is underway to identify all potential exposure venues.

This should not be cause for alarm, but this is the time for us to be alert. While we await further details about this case please monitor the contact tracing alerts website, especially if you have been to the Sunshine Coast between 5 – 8 June.

In response to this new case, we will be stepping up our testing capacity at our fever clinics. Without exception, anyone who has COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, should be tested and isolate until they get a negative result. Separately, please get tested immediately if you have been to any of the new Queensland exposure sites, regardless of whether or not you have any symptoms.

I would encourage anyone who is eligible for a vaccine, but is yet to receive one, to book an appointment for vaccination as soon as possible. Please visit our COVID-19 vaccinations webpage to find out more information and get the web-link to register for a vaccine. We have appointments at our Doomben community clinic every day this week and next week.

For those that are keen to assist in the vaccination clinics, standby – we will have more information on these opportunities for you by Friday!!!

Kind regards,

Dr Liz Rushbrook
