Redcliffe Hospital hosted its 5th annual Research Symposium last Thursday. The program featured 17 presentations from staff and collaborators, 12 e-posters and a keynote presentation by Professor Katrina Campbell, Director of Healthcare Excellence and Innovation. The winner of the Research Excellence Award was Dr Pat Carroll, Staff Specialist in General Medicine for his extraordinary contribution to research at Redcliffe Hospital over the last 30 years. He has been the principal site investigator on 70 practice-changing clinical trials and associated studies including the EINSTEIN trial, which evaluated oral rivaroxaban for the treatment of acute deep-vein thrombosis and was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2010.

The Metro North Office of Research, QUT and Queensland Health are collaborating on a project to understand what shapes the identities and careers of researchers within Hospital and Health Service environments. To find out more visit: https://research.qut.edu.au/research-careers-in-health/, email GenEqHealthRes@qut.edu.au or contact Dr Rebecca Soole on (07) 3647 9637.

The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences is hosting webinars entitled Allied Health – Life as a Clinician-Scientist on 5th October (4:30-6pm) and Nursing and Midwifery Life as a Clinician-Scientist on 6th October (2.00-4.30) as online symposia. We would encourage Metro North staff to take a strong lead role in developing the allied health clinician scientist workforce (as well as medical and nursing clinician scientists).

The Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners (BDHP) are hosting two sessions on Consumer Engagement Training for Researchers: Involving Consumers in your Research on the 14 and 18 October 2021 and Metro North researchers are invited to attend.

A quick reminder that the final day for submission to the Metro North Clinician Research Fellowships is fast approaching on Wednesday 29 September 2021.

Regards

Dan
