Construction activities on the up and up: Clinical services building Level 4 concrete pours underway.
Despite a disruptive start to the year, construction activity on the two main construction sites, the new Clinical Services building and the multi-storey carpark, is picking-up pace.
A steady flow of cement trucks to site has ensured work on the level 4 floor slab in the new five storey Clinical Services building has now commenced. Similarly, concrete pours for the level 3 floor slab on the multi-storey carpark site are well underway.
Concrete pours to create the ground beams for the new BEMS building have commenced. The ground beams rest directly on the concrete piles and serve as the building’s foundation.
The project team and the hospital continue to work in partnership designing and delivering operational commissioning activities. The Operational Commissioning team is busy organising the move planning process and supporting staff through the change.
A key focus in the change management space is the development of virtual reality tours. The tours are a powerful tool allowing staff to engage with their new departments in a virtual way. A number of tours have already been developed and shared with staff, including the new emergency department, the new perioperative unit, the new BEMS building and the new Security office.
The response to the virtual tours has been extremely positive, with staff commenting on how exciting it is to see the layout and design of their new departments. Work is underway to create virtual tours for all new departments, with work already underway on one for the new Intensive Care Unit and Ward 4C (Cardiac Care and Cardiac Sciences units). The tours will be uploaded to the CHRP intranet site in the coming weeks, so make sure you jump online and check them out.
The CKW Service Readiness team has been busy working with service lines across the CKW Directorate to identify and confirm the full list of clinical consumables needed to ensure we have everything in place and available for opening day. The team have also been busy working with service lines to finalise the models of care and service delivery documents.
In the facility readiness space, our clinical planners are continuing to host construction site visits with key staff, including a site tour in February with CKW Emergency Department doctors, who were excited to see the size of their significantly expanded department.
