    What’s income protection insurance?

Income protection insurance pays a weekly benefit for a specified time if an employee’s unable to work because of an injury or illness.

What do I need to do?

Make sure you understand the process for accessing QSuper and your obligations as a manager. Refer to the QSuper Income Protection Factsheet.

    Before an employee takes leave

    • Let the worker know they have to provide a medical certificate for the time off. If they go on leave without a current medical certificate, their leave will be considered not approved and QSuper must be notified as soon as possible.
    • Make sure they complete a leave form in my
    • Help the worker access the QSuper Income Protection Benefit Guide if necessary.

While an employee is on leave

    • Forward medical certificates to the relevant Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator (RRTWC).
    • Submit leave forms and AVACs for the injured workers through myHR.
    • Keep in regular contact with the injured worker while they’re on leave.

When an employee returns to work

    • If the worker has accessed QSuper Income Protection insurance, they’ll need a clearance medical certificate before returning to normal duties.
    • When the worker’s ready to return to work, contact the Rehabilitation and Return to Work Co-ordinator to discuss the process and to get the documents required.
    • Accommodate the worker’s return, taking account of the needs in your work area. Note: there’s no obligation to provide ‘suitable duties’ as you do for workers returning on WorkCover.
    • Keep in touch with the worker and monitor their progress.
