Compassion

We create a safe, nurturing environment where kindness thrives, and everyone feels valued and supported.

What is compassion?

At Metro North Health, compassion means more than just being kind. It’s about creating a safe, supportive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued – no matter their background or circumstances.

During the 2025 Have Your Say (HYS) Survey, staff selected the following definition as the one that best reflects what compassion means at Metro North Health:

“We create a safe, nurturing environment where kindness thrives, and everyone feels valued and supported.”

This shared definition guides how compassion is expressed across our teams, services, and leadership practices.

How we bring compassion to life

Compassion is expressed in many different ways across Metro North Health, shaped by our roles, teams, and the communities we serve.

What unites us is a shared commitment to working respectfully, safely, and inclusively, in line with our values and the Code of Conduct for the Queensland Public Service.

The examples below illustrate how compassion often shows up in everyday work and interactions across Metro North Health.

Compassion is reflected through everyday actions and choices that prioritise care, dignity, and understanding.

This can include:
